Ioana, a mother of three daughters, has been in the wellness space for over twenty years. This includes owning and operating a community wellness studio and creating a movement and meditation practice inspired by her Samoan ancestors and family. Her mother is Indigenous Samoan, and her father is Egyptian, Greek, Turkish, and Lebanese. She was born in Lebanon and has lived in seven countries spanning four continents. She is a first-generation multi-lingual immigrant.
Ioana has an honours BA in hotel management and tourism, and a diploma in natural nutrition. During the pandemic, she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream of pursuing a degree in psychology. She graduated, and in 2024 embarked on the next part of her journey, a master’s program in counselling psychology.
Community is an integral part of Ioana’s life. She has initiated and participated in several fundraisers for grassroots and national organizations and was awarded the community health partner award for outstanding contribution to health in the community from BANA (The Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association).
As an advocate of eating disorder awareness, her third wellness book, “My Breakup with the Scale, How and Why I Ended the 30-Year Relationship” documents her journey through her eating disorder struggles.
Ioana’s life has been a kaleidoscope of experiences that have shaped her into the person she is today. She spent most of her childhood in a war zone and has been challenged with obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and over thirty years of eating disorders. With the help of many professionals, family, and friends, she has made strides in her recovery emerging with more resilience, humility, compassion, and gratitude, and would like to pay it forward by helping others do the same. Ioana’s goal is to utilize somatic trauma-informed practices and combine ancestral and academic wisdom.
