Erin Huston, MA, Community Engagement
Training and Education Coordinator
Erin Huston has a Masters in Social Justice and Community Engagement at Wilfrid Laurier University. During her undergrad at the University of Waterloo in a Joint Honours Program of Legal Studies and Peace & Conflict Studies, Erin co-created “eatingdisorderconfession,” a pro-recovery blog dedicated to allowing followers a safe space to be honest about their struggles and recovery triumphs related to eating disorders. The blog continues to run with over 40 000 followers after being created in 2014. In 2015, Erin was a recipient of the Body Confidence Canada Award, an award that acknowledges Canada- based recipients who are trailblazers advocating for and creating more inclusive spaces for bodies that have been traditionally marginalized. In 2017, Erin was nominated for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Middlesex County’s Champion of Mental Health Award.
Using her own lived experience with eating disorders and depression, Erin commonly leads workshops and speaking engagements around the topics of body positivity, self-acceptance, mental health, and consent. Her current research focuses on the shortcomings of the body positivity movement to liberate women’s bodies from social control, and how instead the shift of control has gone from thinness to fitness.
